CIRCLE OF SECURITY PARENTING

The Circle of Security Parenting course was created by a team of psychologists who took on the task of reviewing 60 years of research on secure attachment. They wanted to make this knowledge accessible to people who need it the most – parents and caregivers. The result of their effort was an easy-to-follow parenting course that offers a map for parents who want to raise emotionally secure children.

What I appreciate most about the Circle of Security Parenting is that it is not prescriptive. It clearly outlines what children need to feel safe; it offers a space for each parent to think about how are they meeting (and not yet meeting) their child’s needs and how they would like to move forward in their parenting. Because it is based on fundamental attachment needs, parents can benefit from this course regardless of their parenting approach and cultural background.

Circle of Security Parenting is particularly helpful for separated parents who:

  • Have different approaches to parenting

  • Are finding it difficult to communicate about their children

  • Have a history of conflict yet know that in the interest of their children they need to rebuild communication and trust

  • Find it difficult to discuss big decisions about their children and to exchange information about day-to-day parenting

  • Have children who are reluctant or refuse to see one or other of them

The Circle of Security Parenting course helps to address these issues by keeping the focus on the child’s needs. Each session covers a key theme about supporting emotional security that can help parents gain a new perspective on their specific situations and find more helpful ways to navigate them.
